About
The creation of the Negroni is attributed to Count Camillo Negroni, an Italian aristocrat who is said to have invented this cocktail in 1919 in the famous Caffè Casoni in Florence. Accustomed to drinking an Americano (a cocktail made with Campari, red vermouth and sparkling water), he asked the bartender, Fosco Scarselli, to strengthen it by replacing the sparkling water with gin. The result was a more intense and complex cocktail, which quickly won over the café's clientele. The drink then took the count's name, becoming the Negroni.
