Lighted cigarette

Lighting a cigarette while drinking a glass of alcohol is a reflex that you are probably not aware of, and yet a study shows us that there was a link and gives us the reason.

Researchers from the Medical University of Missouri in the USA have highlighted this relationship between alcohol consumption and the need to smoke. Published in the Journal of Neurochemistry, the study aims to understand why more than 80% of people addicted to alcohol are also addicted to tobacco and why one addiction leads the other into a vicious circle.

The anti-fatigue effect

Experiments carried out on rats who were offered tobacco and alcohol demonstrated that nicotine had a stimulating effect on those who took alcohol. Tobacco and alcohol therefore prove to be an anti-fatigue cocktail, according to researchers, it is in an area of the brain called the basal proencephalon that nicotine reduces the effect of fatigue due to alcohol.

More pleasure and euphoria

In a previous study a link between alcohol and tobacco had already been made, the researchers had in fact demonstrated that the two together increased pleasure and euphoria because they activated the reward system in the brain.

In short, studies which are indeed not of the greatest importance, but you will at least know why you can do without your cigarette even less when you consume alcohol ;)
