History
The Clover Club cocktail is named after a Philadelphia men's club of businessmen, lawyers and journalists founded in 1896. They used to gather at the Bellevue-Stratford Hotel, this is where the cocktail would certainly have been invented.
In 1934 a magazine listed this cocktail as one of the 12 worst cocktails of the decade, and by 1950 the cocktail was just a distant memory.
Recently, a restaurant was built in Brooklyn called "Clover Club" and resuscitated this good old cocktail to make it one of their flagship cocktails. At the time this text is written, the recipe for the Clover Club cocktail is made in this restaurant with additional dry vermouth.
