History

The Hurricane cocktail is said to have originated in the 1940s at the Pat O'Brien bar located in the Vieux Carré Français district of New Orleans, Louisiana (USA). It is said that the recipe was invented in order to get rid of a surplus of rum. The Hurricane has remained the establishment's flagship drink.

The recipe has changed a bit over time, originally the Hurricanes were only made with dark rum, lime juice and passion fruit syrup.
