History

The Red Lion cocktail is said to have been created in 1933 by British bartender Arthur A. Tarling. His recipe won him first prize that year in a British cocktail competition, the "British Empire Cocktail Competition".

This competition was organized by the gin brand "Booth's Gin" created around 1740. To this day, this gin is still produced and marketed. Red Lion is the name of the oldest Booth's gin distillery.
