History
The Gin Fizz cocktail recipe was first published in 1862 in Jerry Thomas' "How to Mix Drinks" as Gin Fix. The Gin Fizz is a variant of the famous Gin Tonic cocktail, it was concocted from 1750 to fight against malaria thanks to the virtue of quinine found in the tonic.
Simple and balanced recipe, we simply bring to the gin the freshness of the lemon and the sweetness of the sugar, this is the objective of the fizzes. With the same proportions, we could therefore do the same with any other brandy.
Several cocktails are derived from Gin Fizz: Silver Fizz (with an egg white), Golden Fizz (with an egg yolk), Royal Fizz (with a whole egg) or Ramos Gin Fizz.
The Gin Fizz is not to be confused with the Tom Collins cocktail, the main difference lies in the fact that the Gin Fizz is served without ice unlike the Tom Collins.
