About
The Paper Plane is a relatively new cocktail, but its rapid rise as a modern classic has already made it a staple in contemporary bars. Created in 2007 by mixologist Sam Ross, one of New York’s most influential bartenders, the cocktail perfectly embodies the spirit of innovation and simplicity that characterizes today’s mixology.
Sam Ross, then head bartender at the famed Manhattan speakeasy cocktail bar Attaboy, created the cocktail in collaboration with his friend and colleague Mitch Rosen. The story goes that the inspiration for the Paper Plane came from music. Ross came up with the basic idea while listening to M.I.A.’s song “Paper Planes,” which combines modern sounds with infectious energy. The cocktail is a liquid metaphor for the song’s dynamic and innovative vibe.
