Metropolitan cocktail: the brandy variation of the famous Manhattan.

Recipe

For 1 person
2.5 cl brandy
5 cl vermouth rosso
0.5 cl simple syrup (optional, sweeter)
3 dashes Angostura Bitters

How to make

Technique: mixing glass / Glass: martini, coupe / Type: short drink (8cl) / Time: 3 mn
  1. Place a few ice cubes in a mixing glass then the brandy, vermouth rosso and simple syrup.

  2. Stir with a mixing spoon.

  3. Garnish with a lemon zest.

History

The Metropolitan was published in 1884 in "Modern Bartender's Guide" by O. H. Byron, it is a variation of the famous Manhattan where brandy (Cognac...) replaces whiskey.

The name given to this cocktail could refer to the Metopolitan Hotel in New York (1852-1895) or the famous Metropolitan Museum of Art opened in 1872.
