About

The Sea Breeze was created in the 1920s, though it gained notoriety in the 1960s. The cocktail has no known official creator, but its name suggests inspiration from the coast and beaches, evoking a cool sea breeze, perfect for relaxing in the sun. It is largely associated with the time when vodka cocktails began to gain momentum in the United States.

Around this time, vodka was beginning to replace gin and whiskey in many popular cocktails, thanks to its neutral taste, allowing the other ingredients to shine more. The Sea Breeze is a perfect example: a simple but harmonious blend of vodka, cranberry juice and grapefruit, often served over ice in a highball glass.
