History

The tequila sunrise cocktail is one of the most famous and appreciated cocktails. This famous "Tequila orange grenadine" is made directly by the glass and its ingredients being basic, its realization is within everyone's reach. The warm colors of this long drink that we would enjoy on a terrace in the middle of summer inspire us with a sunset or a sunrise, and to tell the truth, this may not be a coincidence.

The story goes that this cocktail was created in 1976 by a bartender from San Francisco. Found drunk by his boss after staying a whole night in the bar where he worked, this bartender would have pretended to have stayed to create a recipe reproducing the sunrise. He would then have justified himself by running this famous Tequila Sunrise.

Another version indicates that the origin of the Tequila Sunrise cocktail dates back to the end of the 1930s and that it was Gene Sulit, bartender at the Arizona Biltmore Hotel in Phoenix, who created it at the request of a customer who wanted a cocktail refreshing.

The Tequila Sunrise has now become so famous that it has created a new family of cocktails: the "sunrises". Indeed any spirit becomes "sunrise" when orange juice and grenadine syrup are added to it.

Note that depending on the quality of your syrup, it may be necessary to stir gently with a mixing spoon to create a smoother gradient.
