The new year rhymes with hangovers for many, Cocktail Mag takes stock of this ailment which has the unfortunate habit of ruining our aftermath of the holidays.
First be aware that the medical term for hangover is veisalgia, a term formed from the Norwegian word "kveis" meaning discomfort and the Greek word "algia" meaning pain . Discomfort and pain, we actually get along pretty well...
But how to cure this hangover? We will have heard about everything, coffee, betaine citrate, paracetamol, 3000 grandmothers' recipes or even a bloody mary, but what are the remedies that really work? In fact, nothing is more effective than drinking plenty of water and getting plenty of rest! Indeed, after an evening of too much drinking, your body needs to rest, and water fills in the dehydration caused by alcohol. The rest has never proven itself, even more so for coffee since it makes the liver work instead of resting it.
Water can also be effective in prevention, drinking water between two glasses of alcohol could actually help for the next day even if the best solution is still moderation.
Heredity involved
Two recent American studies show that there may be a genetic and hereditary cause in the ability to develop or not develop the undesirable symptoms of a hangover. According to these studies, the share of heredity amounts to 43%.
