About
The Vodka Martini is a modern twist on the classic Martini, which was originally made with gin and vermouth. The Martini itself dates back to the 19th century, with mentions of similar recipes found in old cocktail manuals, including the "Martinez", which appeared in the 1860s-1880s.
However, it was not until the 20th century, with the rise of vodka, that the Vodka Martini version began to become popular. The introduction of vodka to the American market, particularly after World War II, marked a turning point in mixology. Unlike gin, which has a flavor palette marked by juniper berries and other botanicals, vodka offers a more neutral base, allowing for a smoother and more approachable cocktail.
