Navy Grog
The Navy Grog: a tiki cocktail that has the particularity of being composed of 3 types of rum.

Recipe

For 1 person
2 cl white rum
2 cl dark rum
2 cl Demerara rum
1.5 cl lime juice
1.5 cl honey syrup *
2 cl sparkling water

How to make

Technique: shaker / Glass: tiki, old-fashioned / Type: long drink (11cl) / Time: 3 mn
  1. Insert crushed ice directly into the glass.

  2. Shake all the ingredients except the sparkling water.

  3. Strain into a tiki glass.

  4. Add sparkling water.

  5. Garnish as desired with a wedge of lime or orange, a cherry and/or a sprig of mint.

History

The Navy Grog cocktail is said to have been created around 1941 by Don the Beachcomber ("Donn Beach"), Ernest Raymond Beaumont Gantt of his real name - 1907-1989), he is the ambassador of the "tiki" cocktails of which the Navy Grog is one. Note that some bartenders add a pinch of grated nutmeg to this recipe, others make Navy Grogs in a blender.

* You can make honey syrup by mixing 50% honey and 50% hot water.
