History

The Churchill cocktail was created by Joe Gilmore, head bartender of the American bar at the Savoy Hotel in London, where he worked from 1940 to 1976. He received the greatest celebrities and has created cocktails in their homage, this is the case for this cocktail. Joe Gilmore concocted it in honor of the politician Winston Churchill who asked him one evening to invent a cocktail in his name.

Remember that Winston Churchill (1874-1965) is world famous for having been the English Prime Minister from 1940 to 1945 and then from 1951 to 1955. The statesman also had talents in painting but also in writing which earned him a Nobel Prize for Literature at the end of his life.

Churchills are rather dry cocktails with a hint of bitterness and acidity, they are also sometimes made with red vermouth.
