History

The Margarita cocktail is now one of the most famous cocktails in the world, its common composition is 2 parts tequila to 1 part triple sec and 1 part lime juice.

It would be Margaret Sames, nicknamed Margarita, who would have created the Margarita in 1948 in Acapulco, Mexico, in any case under that name... Because indeed recipes with the same compositions but under different names have been found in writings well before 1948, and in the end the inventor of the original recipe was never officially recognized.

Margaret Sames, who therefore thought she was the first to create the recipe, had made a mixture of her favorite drinks: tequila and Cointreau. After adding lime, she would have decided to add salt on the rim of the glass knowing that it went perfectly with the tequila, her cocktail called Margarita was then born.

Margaret Sames used to make this cocktail for guests as rich and famous as her husband, which is what would have started to make the Margarita popular. It was only a few years later that the cocktail would have started to appear in recipe books under the name of Margarita, thus achieving the success that we know today.

Margaritas gave their name to the specific glass that is the Margarita glass pictured above. There are several cocktails derived from the Margarita, they are also served in this glass.
