History
This is the common and undoubtedly original recipe for the Acapulco cocktail that we provide here, it is indeed traditionally made with white rum, triple sec, lime juice, egg white, sugar and sprig of fresh mint.
This recipe is increasingly modified, some people tend to replace the rum with tequila, probably because it is Mexico's flagship drink (remember that Acapulco de Juárez is a city in Mexico). By replacing the rum with tequila, the cocktail would be more in line with its name. This basic recipe is also a little full-bodied, it is not uncommon to find fruit juice incorporated with in particular pineapple juice and grapefruit juice because they are exotic fruits.
That's why sometimes you can find completely modified Acapulcos consisting of tequila and fruit juice.
