About
The Port Wine Sangaree is an ancient cocktail, dating back to the 1700s, long before the rise of modern mixology. It belongs to the Sangaree family of drinks made with alcohol, sugar and spices, which are considered the ancestors of cocktails as we know them today.
Praised for its simplicity and balance of sweetness and depth, the Port Wine Sangaree is an elegant blend of port, sugar and sometimes a touch of nutmeg or soda water. It was particularly popular in 18th and 19th century British and American taverns, where it was served as a refined pick-me-up.
