History
The Gin Rickey cocktail first appeared in 1882 in Harry Johnson's Bartenders Manual. Gin Rickey is said to have been created by bartender George Williamson in 1880 at "Shoomaker's Bar" in Washington, in honor of Colonel Joe Rickey who later became a major importer of lemons.
Gin Rickeys are basically gin fizz minus the sugar.
There is no decoration in the original recipe of Gin Rickey but nothing prevents to embellish with a slice or a zest of lime.
