History

The 20th century cocktail appeared in 1937 in the book "Cafe Royal Cocktail Book" by William J. Tarling who was a bartender at the Café Royal (London) and president of the "United Kingdom Bartenders' Guild ".

This cocktail would have been named in honor of the "20th (twentieth) century limited" train which linked New York to Chicago between 1902 and 1967, it was once called "the most famous train in the world".

* Originally, the 20th century cocktail called for the use of Kina Lillet, now defunct. Many now replace it with Lillet Blanc, others use "Cocchi Americano" closer to the original Kina Lillet.
