History

The Communard cocktail is one of the many derivatives of the famous kir. The history of the communard is not precisely known even if this recipe finds its origin in Burgundy (France).

The mystery remains as to the name given to this cocktail, it is said that its blood red color would probably evoke the bloody events of the Paris Commune in 1871 and the color of the flag. Communard cocktails would therefore be made with red wines from Burgundy (or close to it) and whose color is close to blood red.
