Recipe

For 1 person
1 cup of hot coffee
1 sugar
0.5 cl of yellow Chartreuse or brandy*

How to make

  1. Prepare a hot cup of coffee.

  2. Place a teaspoon containing sugar soaked in yellow Chartreuse or brandy on the cup.

  3. Flame the sugar until it dissolves.

History

The Royal Coffee is a cocktail composed of coffee, sugar and Yellow Chartreuse, it was published under the name "café royal" in 1891 by the American bartender William Boothby in his book "Cocktail Boothby's American Bar-Tender".

*When it was first published in 1891, Royal Coffee was made with yellow Chartreuse, today it is more commonly made with brandy (Cognac...), it's up to you make it with the brandy you prefer.
