3 cl absinthe
1.5 cl whiskey
1.5 de vermouth rosso
2 cl gum syrup
4 cl sparkling water

Add absinthe, whiskey, vermouth and gum syrup to a mixing glass with a few ice cubes.

Stir with a mixing spoon.

Strain into a glass filled with ice cubes.
History
This recipe for the Brain Duster cocktail appeared in 1895 in "Modern American Drinks" by George Kentendre. The sparkling water and gum syrup contained in this original recipe are now commonly replaced by 2 dashes of Angostura Bitter, in this case the cocktail becomes a 7cl short drink and is served in a cocktail glass.
